Abstract
Oscillations in beta/gamma frequency band and synchronization of action potentials are though to be important for the functioning of the brain. However, there is still no computational model that would account efficiently for these phenomena. I list seven empirical results related to oscillations and neuronal synchrony that yet need to be implemented in a successful model. These seven properties of brain activity should be considered essential because they provide strong constraints for the choices of the mechanisms that can be used to explain brain processes. A successful account for these results should advance brain theory and help also develop novel technologies by helping utilize precise timing in artificial neural networks.
