Abstract
The PLEIADES project harnesses the experience of organizations in France, the United Kingdom and Belgium to apply information technology in the Paris-London-Belgium corridor. PLEIADES will operate and evalute field trials of Radar Data System - Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC), trip-planning, paging, audiotex, vehicle navigation and variable message signs. These trials will help to determine the effectiveness of these technologies in travel and traffic information and integrated interurban traffic management applications. The PLEIADES trials will give operators in three countries the chance to see how best to adapt their existing software and systems to these new technologies. They will also show how to overcome the practical problems of sharing data in standard formats among government authorities, and private commercial organizations within each country and across the slowly-disappearing borders of EC member states.
