  • Abstract
This paper presents an originally designed planar resonator that shows at the same time negative electric polarizability and magnetic polarizability. The resonator is composed as a combination of electric and magnetic planar resonators. Consequently it is a useful building block for a double negative volumetric metamaterial. The magnetic element is a split ring resonator, and the electric element is an electric dipole terminated by an inductor. The response of the single resonator is strongly anisotropic. A proper spatial arrangement of these resonators can make the response isotropic. The design process has been verified experimentally.
