Abstract
This paper describes and compares two different channel coding processing systems used in DVB-H and DVB-SH-A standards of digital video broadcasting to handheld devices. DVB-SH satellite handheld system, as a hybrid of satellite and terrestrial transmission paths, offers two transmission modes - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing OFDM and Time Division Multiplexing TDM. OFDM mode only is used in Complementary Ground Component CGC terrestrial path. Both OFDM and TDM modes can be used in SC Satellite Component. DVB-SH-A OFDM mode is considered only in the paper and is compared with DVB-H terrestrial system. Theoretical simulation results of C/N requirements are included.
