Abstract
The paper presents different aspects of driving the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The excitation in the PMSM motor is provided owing to permanent magnet instead of the field windings. Special construction causes that the PMSM motor has sinusoidal back EMF. The motor requires sinusoidal stator currents to produce constant torque. The paper presents mathematical analysis of the motor operation (d, q model) that serves as the base to develop several options of the driver design. The elements of the field oriented control (FOC) technique are present. The paper includes also short review of the different central processing units, in which the FOC can be implemented.
