Abstract
In this study, the magnitudes and the waveforms of the energisation transients induced at the receiving-end and sending-end of an underground power cable system are obtained using digital simulation. Transient voltages are first obtained in the frequency domain and then found in the time domain using a modified Fourier transform technique. The effects of various system parameters, such as cable length, source impedance and shunt compensation on the transient performance of the underground cable system are investigated.
