Panel on: “Distributed operating” systems and distributed databases

I would like to make my comments in the context of distributed information systems, or if you prefer, distributed computers and distributed data bases. I do so because: First, I believe this is the way that much of the information systems world is going; and, Second, free standing systems are a special case of distributed systems. If we can understand distributed systems, then we shall understand free standing systems.
