Abstract
Shield wire segmentation has proven to be an effective method for reducing real power losses of high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission lines. The purpose of this paper is to present a methodology for performing a cost benefit analysis of shield wire segmentation to aid decision makers in determining whether or not it is an economical means of reducing losses. The proposed methodology can be used to assess new or existing transmission lines. Additionally, a simple method of calculating the real power losses on each shield wire is provided.
