Abstract
IEEE 802.11 PCF provides the fairly service without competition, but it is not energy efficiency, so the unnecessary energy consumption caused by empty polling of AP and idle listening of the active nodes will shorten the lifetime when the load is not heavy. A polling control protocol for wireless sensor network, namely Limited-K service Polling Schedule with Sleeping (K-PSSS) was proposed for the data acquisition environment to reduce the energy consumption. The access control mechanism and the characters of service performance and energy efficiency were analyzed, and then the data transfer proceeding in serial mode and parallel mode of K-PSSS was also described respectively. The experimental results indicate that the system performance can be satisfied and the energy of idle nodes and AP will be greatly saved in K-PSSS mechanism which helps to extend the lifetime. At last, the application environments of these access control schedules were analyzed.
