Abstract
This paper presents our developed energy efficient software defined wireless access point with an OpenFlow framework. The developed access point is adaptively powered on/off according to users´ traffic conditions by the OpenFlow controller via the OpenFlow protocol. The OpenvSwitch is installed on a commercially available board in the access point to communicate with the OpenFlow controller. Our Experiments shows the detection of traffic flows and switch on/off the network interface. Our experiment confirms that the developed access point with the function of power activation and deactivation is managed based on traffic conditions in the OpenFlow framework. Also, monitoring framework is implemented to detect packet forwarding based on OpenvSwitch logs.
