Abstract
This paper presents the design of a metamaterial-lined circular OEWG probe antenna operating over 37% below its natural cutoff frequency. The metamaterial liner possesses epsilon-negative and near-zero properties and is implemented as a stack of reactively loaded printed-circuit rings. Full-wave simulations and measurements of return loss and radiation pattern are in close agreement and show an operating bandwidth of 100MHz below f = 3.70GHz.
