Abstract
The unique properties of two dimensional materials have been attracting the ever increasing interest of the scientific community since the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, which was awarded to Novoselov and Geim for their groundbreaking studies on graphene. Scientists have already envisaged a plethora of innovative applications in electronics and photonics which exploit the unique characteristics of this new material platform. Here we will first review the state-of-the-art of modeling of photonic devices based on the co-integration of conventional dielectric waveguides and graphene. Then, we will discuss peculiar temporal and spatial features of one dimensional graphene based edge plasmon polaritons.
