Abstract
In this paper, a fully distributed algorithm is proposed for the economic operation of the distribution grid. This is required in order to balance local generation and loads at parts of the distribution networks, in order to reduce flows in the upstream networks. The algorithm utilizes a population dynamics approach to solve the economic dispatch problem in a distribution network with increased penetration of distributed generation units. It is shown that the local replicator equation guarantees under certain considerations, optimal solution taking into account the technical constraints of the network. Test cases are provided from applications in a realistic distribution network.
