  • Abstract
    We examine the effect of the cross-sectional shape on the dispersion characteristics of the fundamental surface plasmon polariton (SPP) mode guided along Au/Ag nanowires in a wide wavelength range. It is observed that the cross-sectional shape has a significant effect on dispersion characteristics of the metallic nanowires. The dispersion is found to be minimum for the circular cross-section, and increases as we go toward triangular via pentagonal and rectangular cross-sections. Further the difference between circular and other cross-sections increases rapidly as the wavelength of operation decreases.
