  • Abstract
GridON´s saturated core fault current limiters have been installed in live networks for more than two years. Field performance and test results of 10MVA and 30MVA devices are described in this paper. These saturated core fault current limiters (FCLs) are passive failsafe devices, which limit the fault current from the first peak and have immediate recovery capability. They present a large ratio between fault impedance and normal impedance, based solely on the current level through them. These FCLs are now well-established field proven devices and commercially available products. The paper reviews the performance of these devices through long duration and high power fault events. Their uninterrupted operation in transformer feeders is demonstrated. These FCLs are based on standard power transformer technology and are scalable to all voltage levels up to EHV transmission networks.
