  • Abstract
This study describes the effect and outcome of arteriovenous fistula operations in Taiwan by analyzing case linkage in Taiwan´s National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) from 1997 to 2010. 3,374 patients and 3,866 cases with confirmed clinical details of arteriovenous fistulae were queried from the 1/20-sampled hospitalization dataset. The overall patency rate is above 80.00% in 600 weeks. The survival curves were different in fresh and non-fresh cases. The survival probability of non-fresh patients was 1.64 times greater than that of fresh patients. Age group 50-59, age group 60-69, and age group 70- were significantly different from age group -19. The survival probability of age 60-69 patient was .23 times greater than that of age group -19 patients. The survival curves were different in male and female cases. The survival probability of male patients was 1.39 times than that of female patients. By using competing risks analysis, it has been found that fresh and non-fresh patients were different in recurrent events, and different age groups and genders were different in both recurrent and change events.
