  • Abstract
This paper presents a drive system of asymmetrical two - phase induction motors (TPIMS), which is able to operate in four quadrants. A front end converter connected with grid allows bidirectional power flow for rectification and inversion modes based on vector control to keep dc link voltage constant. A machine side converter uses a three - leg voltage source inverter based on a space vector pulse width modulation technique. The control strategy is based on indirect field oriented control for good dynamic response. The proposed system is simulated by Matlab/Simulink. Simulation results show that the proposed system is able to operate in four quadrants and torque performance is good. Grid current waveform is close to sinusoidal and grid power factor is nearly unity. In a braking condition the system allows power flow to grid for energy saving.
