Abstract
With the popularization of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) in recent year, the problem of temperature rise has attracted more and more attention since excessive heat generated in the windings could deteriorate the electromagnetic performance and limit thrust density. Thus, thermal analysis is an essential step of motor design. In order to solve this problem, a suitable method is adopting water-cooled system. Based on two dimensional finite element analysis (FEA), the thermal performance of a water-cooled, 12-slot, 11-pole, double-sided PMLSM with all-tooth wound concentrated windings and shifted armature ends are investigated. Under the condition of continuous duty, the temperature distribution is studied, then the effect of water-cooled system on temperature rise and thrust output is investigated. Meanwhile, the water flow rate is optimized and the impact of temperature rise on permanent magnet performance is investigated. Finally, it is concluded the water-cooled PMLSM has high thrust force density.
