  • Abstract
This paper investigates the derivation and performance of various near and far wake models for the application of wind power generation. The near wake models include the actuator disk model (ADM) and the blade element momentum theory (BEM), whereas the far wake models include the Jensen´s model, the Frandsen´s model and its Gaussian variation. The adaptability of the three far wake models to the two near wake models is analyzed. In this paper, the combination of blade element moment theory and Frandsen´s Gaussian model is explicitly proposed. A comparison of these methods was made to demonstrate the applicable range of the Jensen´s model. The results also showed that the Frandsen´s model and its Gaussian variation had the best performance.
