Abstract
In this paper, the crystallographic orientation-dependent performances of 635nm red quantum well (QW) laser are numerically studied. The electronic and optical characteristics of the laser are investigated by solving time independent Schrodinger equation using finite difference method. The results are obtained in (001), (101), (111), (113), and (211) orientations and found that there is a substantial correlation of the peak gain and peak emission wavelength with crystal orientations. The maximum and minimum gains are estimated in (113) and (211) orientations and the peak emission wavelengths are found 642nm and 648nm for the crystal orientations (113) and (211). The orientation dependent energy band dispersion profiles are used to explain the results presented here.
