Abstract
This paper investigates the energy efficiency and reliability of WBANs. Models for packet error rate and energy efficiency of both direct and cooperative transmission schemes with MRC at the destination node are presented. Analytical and simulation works are carried out for both on-body and in-body scenarios of WBANs. Results prove that cooperative transmission scheme fares better than direct communication scheme with respect to achievable hop length, energy efficiency and reliability.
