Abstract
In this paper a Whip monopole antenna covering 30-100MHz is designed. The antenna is first simulated using Electromagnetic Simulation software (CST Microwave Studio™). Then it is validated with the measurement on fabricated antenna. The conventional quarter wavelength monopole antenna is a narrow band antenna with bandwidth of the order of 5 to 10 percent of its centre frequency for VSWR less than 2.5, while most of the applications in modern communication and Electronic Warfare (EW) system require wideband antennas. In order to increase the bandwidth of monopole antenna, a matching network is incorporated. The matching network is designed and optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is a global search technique used in computing to find true or approximate solutions to optimization and search problems. The antenna finds use for Trans-receive application in communication systems, EW and spectrum monitoring systems.
