Abstract
A novel topology for direct ac-ac power conversion has been introduced recently. This topology employs a clamping structure so as to reduce the voltage stress on the switching power semiconductor devices. This paper analyzes the dynamics of this center-point-clamped converter by taking the input filter components into consideration. Simulation results presented in the paper verify the efficacy of the designed input and output filter in attenuating the current harmonics in the input side and the voltage harmonics in the output side. A small scale laboratory prototype has been built to prove the practical realization. Experimental waveforms obtained also confirm the already obtained analytical and simulation results.
