Abstract
Lightning outage has always been a major concern for power utilities operating in tropical region which is experiencing high level of lightning activities. Syarikat SESCo Berhad in Malaysia is one of the utilities facing the challenge in achieving decent lightning performance of the lines. This paper presents an investigation study on the suspected double circuit lightning trip incident at 275kV overhead line network in Malaysia. The lightning outage will be investigated based on four study aspects, vitz. shielding failure flashover, backflashover, induced flashover and mid-span flashover. The input to the calculation will be based on recorded data and the typical design parameters for existing 275kV line.
