Abstract
This paper presents a nonlinear decentralized controller for large-scale power systems with the installation of unified power flow controller (UPFC) to improve the dynamic performance of the system. The decentralized controller includes the generator excitation controllers and the UPFC controller, which are designed based on local measurements. The interconnection, nonlinearity and the parameter uncertainty of the plant are taken into account via the use of robust control theory. The resulting decentralized controller is practically realizable and valid within a wide range of operating conditions. A three-machine example system is used to employ the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can greatly enhance the dynamic performance of the system regardless of the network parameters, operating points and fault locations.
