Abstract
A three-section bistable laser diode, which consists of a gain section, absorption section and non-reciprocal section, is proposed. The non-reciprocal section is made of a semiconductor optical amplifier covered by a ferromagnetic metal. The bistability of the laser diode can be switched on or off by reversing magnetization of the ferromagnetic layer.
