  • Abstract
The particular structure of single-sided linear induction motor (SLIM), such as the cut-open magnetic circuit and the difference between primary and secondary width, would lead to longitudinal end-effect and transversal edge-effect. These end-effects could deteriorate the flux linkage and rotor resistance, which would increase the core loss, copper loss, and decrease the efficiency. Also due to the large air-gap length of SLIM, it suffers greatly from low efficiency, especially under lightly loaded conditions. In this paper, first, the distribution of flux density is analyzed by finite element algorithm (FEA) to investigate the influence of end-effects. Second, a novel model of SLIM is proposed to evaluate the influence of longitudinal end-effect and transversal edge-effect. Third, one improved efficiency optimization control (EOC) algorithm that takes copper loss and core loss into account, is presented. Simulations and analysis indicate that the proposed strategy can improve the LIM efficiency obviously in full range of speed with variable loads.
