  • Abstract
    In this paper, we develop a mathematical model for optical 2D-coding PON monitoring system, to investigate optimal fiber-fault decision performance. The close-form expression for PD (detection probability) and PFA (false-alarm probability) are derived by analyzing target signal, interference and all possible noises. The relationship between SIR and SNR (i.e., noise and interference) under different client separation distance and different network size K are given out. Moreover, we study the effect of the different client separation distance, the network size, transmitted pulse width, and the transmitted pulse power on the optimal decision probability (ODP) performance. The extensive numerical results show that the suitable system variables can effectively facilitate optimal decision, which hence reduce the overall cost of the monitoring system and increase the efficiency of fiber fault identification in PONs.
