Abstract
The article examines a case of integrated engineering in the food industry through a modern approach to product development. In a brief analysis of the evolution of the concept of integrated engineering, we argue that this discipline has become increasingly extended and used as a wide-ranging business process. We analyse a case of product packaging in the food industry. The case discusses the different dimensions of integration based on the form of participation of each of the actors in the sustainable development process for packaging. The results obtained from the case study show a reduction in the product´s time-to-market and constitute a contribution to the lessons learned for the project team. Furthermore, they show the real gains with the new form of organizing and rationalizing the use of resources - such as people, structures, information, etc. - in the product development process in dynamic environments.
