Abstract
The optimal tuning of the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller gains, for enhancing performance of industrial Permanent Magnet DC (PMDC) motor, based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is presented in this paper. The main aim is to minimize performance specifications, such as, steady state error, rise time, maximum overshoot/undershoot and settling time. The proposed method is applied to the linear model of PMDC motor. Performance of the suggested objective function of PSO is compared with the performance of other objective functions of PSO and conventional Ziegler Nichols (ZN) method. This comparison clearly indicates the effectiveness of proposed objective function.
