Abstract
After recovering from largest Blackout in India, maintaining power system stability and providing uninterrupted power supply has become the paramount requirement of Indian power industry. In the process of transforming traditional grid to Smart Grid, it is very crucial to develop new tools in order to perform stability studies for analyzing and improving stability of power system. Aim of this paper is to introduce a newly developed tool that performs power system modeling, time-domain simulation and short-term stability assessment and instability investigation of a power network using Lyapunov Exponents (LE). The stability measure in the form of Maximal Lyapunov exponents is used to determine the stability/instability contributions of individual generators to the overall system stability. The front-end for the tool is built in the form a Graphical User Interface (GUI) using MATLAB GUI, which provides easier operation and detailed analysis facility.
