Abstract
Power system stabilisers (PSSs) have been widely used to damp low frequency electromechanical oscillations in power systems. Interconnections within the South African Power Pool introduce the possibility of inter-area oscillations affecting the ESKOM system. This paper details a systematic procedure for the placement and tuning of power system stabilisers to mitigate dynamic oscillations utilising standard industrial grade software.
