Abstract
System affordability has been an important initiative in the defense and commercial industry. The concept of affordability focuses on analytically determining the. "best value" of a system by examining multivariant attributes. The fact that a system costs less does not mean that it will be more affordable. This paper provides an investigation of the application of current system affordability techniques for software. System affordability techniques are briefly described and then examined for their applicability to software. This paper does not address the hands-on application of the identified software affordability techniques, but instead focuses on the awareness of these techniques.
