Abstract
We have demonstrated that optical narrow bandwidth filtering of RZ signals can reduce pulse distortions that result from higher order PMD. The required filter bandwidth is significantly smaller than conventional filter rules predicted for optimal detection in the case of no PMD. Advantageously, this higher order PMD mitigation method requires no active channel adaptation, only a passive filter.
