Abstract
It has been reported that there is a strong dynamic interaction between the active and reactive power flow through a transmission line when they are controlled by a unified power flow controller. This paper proposes a dynamic decoupled (DD) compensator, used in conjunction with a proportional-integral (PI) controller, to eliminate the dynamic interaction between the active and reactive power flow through the line. The proposed compensator allows the controller to independently control the active and reactive power flow. The compensator has a very simple configuration and thus easy to implement. The performance of the proposed DD-PI controller is tested on a simple system and the results obtained are compared with those found for the conventional PI controller.
