Abstract
Room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber coatings are used on outdoor HV porcelain insulators against pollution flashover in polluted areas. This paper presents a new way to improve the resistance to tracking and erosion of RTV coatings. It makes use of nanomaterial instead of the usual. method of alumina trihydrate (ATH) filler. The principles of flame retardation of ATH filler and nanomaterial, are discussed and compared. Several kinds of nanomaterials are added to RTV to obtain nanocomposites. Tests of resistance to tracking and erosion are conducted and the results are given. Also, affecting factors are discussed.
