  • Abstract
This paper discusses a flight simulator experiment that is part of a Free Flight project, in which NASA, FAA, the RLD and NLR collaborate. The NLR activities in this project investigate: ´What is minimally required for airborne separation assurance?´ A basic Airborne Separation Assurance System (ASAS) has been developed consisting of conflict detection, conflict resolution and conflict prevention (CDR&P) based on exchanging solely position and velocity (i.e. ´state´) data. Past experiments have indicated that introducing this system for Free Flight is not only feasible but will also increase the capacity of enroute airspace.
