Abstract
The paper presents a QoS aware resource sharing queuing model, and its application in analyzing the impact of a UMTS service mix on capacity requirements. A two-dimensional M/M/L/B queuing model is derived, and, as a case study, applied to analyze the impact of a QoS aware packet service on UMTS radio capacity. Service workload modeling concepts and analytical WCDMA capacity modeling are also discussed. The analysis concludes that both service mix and data rates have significant impact on UMTS planning.
