Abstract
In this paper, an exact analysis of bit error probability for trellis coded 8-ary phase shift keying modulation is demonstrated by using the analytical technique which we have already proposed. This technique employs an iterative calculation of probability density function of path metric per a transition, and is applicable for multilevel modulation. It is shown that error performance results of 8-ary trellis coded modulation with 2-state soft decision Viterbi decoding can be obtained even in region of low signal-to-noise power ratio.
