Abstract
This paper discusses some issues and methods of resiliency for multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks. We present the two methods that detect the occurrence of failures in the networks. We discuss the reliability in the current IP networks indicating that the reliability of the routing protocols is not enough to support resiliency for time-critical applications that rely on MPLS networks to provide communication between users. The motivation and the goals behind adapting a framework for MPLS-based recovery are presented. The basic recovery models in MPLS networks are discussed. We present these models in unicast MPLS networks and then give their extension in multicast MPLS networks.
