Abstract
In this paper we report the first observation of the fuse effect in a microstructured fiber. The fiber was fabricated by drilling holes in a silica rod and subsequent drawing of a fiber with output diameter of 125 μm. The threshold intensity of laser radiation and some features of catastrophic damage differ strongly from those for conventional silica-based fibers.
