Abstract
An erbium doped SiO2-TiO2 planar amplifier, ytterbium sensitised, is designed by means of a home made computer code. For the small signal operation, a gain close to G = 7.48 dB and a noise figure F = 4.08 dB are calculated for a waveguide 3 cm long, erbium concentration NEr = 2.8 × 1026 ions/m3, ytterbium concentration NYb = 1.4 × 1027 ions/m3, by using pump power of Pp(0) = 200 mW.
