Abstract
The sensitivity of near infrared optical spectroscopy (NIRS) for measurements of brain activation as a response to manipulations of motor tasks was explored in a series of experiments. NIRS measurements were performed during normal breathing and during breath-holding, and hemodynamic responses were observed while either intensity or duration of the stimuli was changed.
