Abstract
The popularity of handheld computers among physicians over the past several years has created a large demand for mobile applications. One such instance is an application allowing physicians to view medical images including laboratory slides, CT, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound. An application that allows clinical staff, including physicians, to view medical images anytime, anywhere will benefit the delivery of healthcare. This application runs on a handheld device to display medical images that have been stored in DICOM format. The application has been tested at Baystate medical center in Springfield, Massachusetts by the radiology department´s resident physicians. Microsoft´s Embedded Visual Tools 3.0 will be used to develop the application in conjunction with several software development toolkits, such as Microsoft´s Pocket PC 2002 SDK.
