Abstract
In this paper, a novel three-phase bipolar stator surface-mounted permanent magnet (B-SSPM) machine with different magnetizations is proposed. The topologies and operation principles of a 6-stator-slots/8-rotor-poles B-SSPM machine are first introduced briefly, and an optimization on the key dimensions is explored to improve the characteristics of phase electromotive force and to reduce cogging torque. In addition, the influences of different magnetizations of magnets on the static characteristic of B-SSPM machines are comprehensively investigated. Finally, the predicted results are confirmed by both finite-element analysis and experiments.
