Abstract
The paper presents a potential application of the measurement of mutual impedance of loop antennas operating at a high frequency to the examination of the inhomogeneity of flood embankments. A system for measuring the mutual impedance of a loop antenna array operating at a frequency of 1 MHz, developed at Wroclaw University of Technology, is described. A method of interpreting measurement results, which consists in determining the medium´s apparent resistivity from measurements of the mutual impedance of loop antennas located above the surveyed medium, is presented. Measurement results for selected sections of the Oder River´s flood embankments (Poland) are interpreted. The results of flood embankment measurements by the electromagnetic method are compared with the ones obtained by the Wenner array electric resistance method and are found to be in good agreement.
