Abstract
The field experience has been reported on an 80 kW photovoltaic (PV) system in Ritsumeikan University. The PV system consists of three types of silicon based solar cells installed at three different azimuths: single crystalline silicon (c-Si) at a south side, amorphous silicon (a-Si) at horizontal and north sides, and polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) at a north side. Annual accumulated output energy from each array shows that a-Si solar cells installed at the horizontal side produce the output of 104% as high as that of c-Si solar cells at the south side, even with less solar irradiation of 93% against that of the south side. This is due to a superior output performance of a-Si solar cells for thermal recovery effect in summer. Some other unique results have been discussed with output characteristics on the north side array.
