Abstract
The effect of gaseous impurities on the melting curve of Fe-C eutectic fixed points was investigated by radiation thermometry. The melting curves of several Fe-C eutectics, which were prepared by different methods in attempts to degas, were compared. From the observations it can be said that, although there were no evidence of gaseous impurities effect in the current investigation, further study is needed to conclude the role of oxygen for the melting curve of metal-carbon eutectics.
