Abstract
The advantages of spatial diversity are investigated with respect to two metrics. i.e., near-far resistance and the rank of the channel matrix. The impact of spatial diversity on the rank of the channel matrix and its significance is first studied. Then the near-far resistance of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector is derived for wireless code division multiple access (CDMA) communication systems with spatial diversity. The derived near-far resistance under different transmit-receive antenna configurations is analyzed and compared. It is shown that near-far resistance is enhanced when spatial diversity is introduced.
