Abstract
This paper examines a combined system with two converters for the harmonic and reactive power compensation (active conditioning) of high power cycloconverter drives. Compensation of harmonic and interharmonic components is achieved by a low rating fast transistor inverter and compensation for fundamental reactive current is achieved by a fundamental switched multilevel thyristor inverter. A full dynamic model of a cycloconverter drive and conditioning system is developed in a power electronic simulator. The system performance obtained in the simulations shows better performance than hybrid filter methods.
